The brief was to transform a hutong (courtyard house) in Beijing's Wangfujing area into exhibition venue for promoting the cultures of ASEAN countries. Starting from the entrance, visitors are greeted with colours, textures, elements that represents unique cultural aspects of these countries. In each of courtyard, fabrics of ASEAN countries' national colours, traditional lanterns, and umbrellas transform each open space into more intimate spaces for visitors to linger, congregate, eat, and view the surrounding exhibitions. Meanwhile the buildings house various exhibition showcasing the nature, crafts, and arts of ASEAN countries.
